I think many readers find themselves nodding along when they reflect on the eroding effects digital media is having on our humanity, but the question is whether we are willing to actually start acting. This is not easy, but it is essential. Seth Haines wrote in a recent article, "Any idea is only as good as its physical or tangible manifestation".
I'll be posting another (briefer) article tomorrow to get readers ready for a 'digital detox pilgrimage'.
We have exceeded our capacity to function, via overuse of electronics. A I merely doubles down on that by removal of one human brain from the process and substituting another of unknown integrity , turning most of us into passengers rather than drivers. That’s not a good thing, particularly if you’re flying a huge plane loaded with humans and corporate is less than candid about the quality of a certain sensor. The time to address this has come and gone, save for a few who by His grace are willing to take the leap of faith, and sacrifice “convenience” and “relationships” for that one last shot at sanity.
This is amazing Anne! It makes me so happy that others are also willing to sacrifice the convenience of smart phones/digital tech. The price isn't worth it! I see all around me people lost into their phones. And not just adults, the smallest children are also given these phones to play with.

Even though I completely avoid what are traditionally thought of as the [anti-]social media platforms (like facepalm, twutter, theirtube, instacrap), substack itself is a form of gamifying of the commons in the way it is designed, and I need to spend less time on it, as well. (It's that monkey strokes rewards system that becomes addictive. Also, we tend to silo ourselves with the groups and coverage of issues with which we most resonate. One wouldn't necessarily think that has to be a bad thing, but I'm realizing it's never going to be a substitute for real life.)
I applaud the effort to ditch or reduce screen time, in all forms.
