The recent NYT articles linked above prompted me to repost it.
Not to mention that the people who shout MY BODY MY CHOICE when it comes to abortion have no problem with mandated vaccines. And vice versa -- conservatives who advocate "medical freedom" draw the line at abortion. Go figure.
For the record, I don't condone any kind of sexual surgeries on children, and I believe in medical freedom, including a woman's right to choose abortion.
Probably an unpopular opinion here in the US, but I don't think parents should be allowed to remove the perfectly healthy foreskins of their sons, either. Circumcision is painful, traumatic & utterly unnecessary. It destroys proper sexual function whereby the male foreskin facilitates static contact between itself & the skin inside the female vagina, basically acting as a sleeve inside which the erectile tissue moves independently. This design minimizes the friction that often results in pain for the female.
Normal teenage angst and identity crisis (I remember it well) has now been monetised under the invention of gender disphoria in a frightening way. You've hit the nail on the head with putting that side-by-side with the FGM outrage.
I only know one person who thinks that any of this gender messing about on kids is acceptable. I have ONE friend (we are in our early 60's) who thinks kids can be 'trans'. she bases her belief on the fact that a mutual gay male friend knew he was 'different' at a young age. I counter that I'm pretty confident that he doesn't regret not having his penis removed. said gay friend is incensed by parents cross-dressing their children - he thinks its sickening and HE used to do drag in his 20's! (he considered it artistic expression and not a lifestyle). it seems like gays in our age group do NOT support this 'trans agenda'. funny that the friend that DOES seem to support it, was a victim of incest as a small child. not sure how that figures in but I do find it kinda strange, psychologically.
