Back a few years ago, when the older ladies were manning my precinct, I said, as I fed my ballot into the DOMINION reader, “watch me while I shred my ballot.” Ooooohhhhh! They said all indignant like, that’s not a shredder. haha! How little did I know back then. It REALLY IS A SHREDDER. It shreds my vote every time and switches it to the opposite of what I want. Michigan is all about the BIG CHEAT. If kh wins, it will be fake news. Even the DETROIT MUSLIMS are voting for TRUMP!

and yet my former BFF (we haven't spoken in nearly 4 months, after a 45+ yr friendship!), who is an election worker in a tiny town in far northern Michigan, insists that it is not possible to cheat the machines cuz they print out what resembles a cash register tape (?? huh. really?) And she also related the extreme distain she felt when 'obviously ignorant misinformed Trumpers' would 'waste (her) time' asking questions about election integrity. uh sorry, I replied, is that not your JOB, to answer their questions?

Pray for her, show the quality of your love for your former BFF.

Sounds like she's suffering diabolical disorientation.

It makes me crazy when those who have done zero research claim to know the facts!

I agree — if kh wins, it won’t be on merit or popularity or logic or anything but fudging with the vote one way or another, or both!

Hi Anne.

The People's Democratic Republic of the U.S. has had 200+ years as a country to wrinkle out the 'glitches' in the election process. If for no other reason than the fact we all begin (or not) the moral growth process from ground zero, I've lost faith in the notion of social progress.

We're up to our necks in clever gadgets and toys, but my guess is that a 'developed' country is a euphemism for how deep the mandelbrot–matryoshka doll of nested corruption lies buried between the will-of-the-people and marionette nominees. Between the podium and the pulpit, I can't help but to gag at the poor acting, and try to re-connect with something more meaningful ... a walk in the woods, a cup of coffee, maybe some good jazz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rdl0WPtJF_Q

Japan goes through the same 'democratic' motion, with only the most superficial of differences. I would call it all a kabuki show, if there was more 'art' to it. Will be glad when this noise is over.

Despite it all, keep up the good fight!

I thought: Who is writing this intellectual comment.

Of course, my friend in Tokyo, Steve Martin.

March on, Steve, and vote often! It's almost Nov. 6 in Japan, who won?

Hey buddy.

Ishiba, from the LDP. But he thought he's consolidate the LDP power by calling for a snap election in the lower house, which was promplty handed a thorough defeat. Without a supermajority, they will not be able to ram through their pet projects, so I think his reign will be short lived. Ironically, it was the Communist Party that handed them the defeat by uncovering the dirty money still continuing to flow, but the Kyosanto (commies) lost even more votes. I am no supporter of them either, but the opposition has got to make a marketing comb-over of at least their name before gaining any traction.

Looking forward to your next trip over here. Though always a day late and yen short for quips, I hope to see the couple with the baby buggy carrying the two pigs and chihuahua again ... if nothing else, so when they remind me of the pigs' names again, I can point to the dog and say "ton demo nai". 😂

Enjoy the post election party ... preferably off shore and a nice morning breeze.

Thanks for weighing in, Steve! It’s theater, to be sure, and poorly done!

Free and fair elections? Never has happened and never will. Remember that we are voting for government and that in itself is voting for more tyranny and anti-freedom.

Expand full comment

You may be right, but what are alternatives to government? We are social beings, we need community. How do we resolve conflicts, manage resources, organize ourselves in a way that works for most people?

Expand full comment

as far as I understand it, a meaningful democratic process only works within a small, local context, not a Big one. small-scale communities should vote for their representatives. based not on Big, but on small and local networks. of course the power hungry ones will not agree to let that happen :-((

As Howard Zinn said, big government is here to stay, but WHOSE big government?

I think we are the problem, we have swallowed neoliberalism whole (gag), and we don't understand we need to make common cause with each other. I live in a rural area and I've heard too many people who should know better say, "Well, I don't want to pay for health care for people who eat too much ice cream." I could counter that with, "I don't want to pay for anything for people who are self-righteous," but that's not exactly constructive!

How can we move the US beyond this nonsense? Our religion is individualistic -- unlike orthodox religions which see the group as important -- our culture is individualistic while simultaneously being extremely conformist. We do not have a balance between the individual and society and each of their rights. And the people who scream loudest about individualism are always the biggest conformists!

There are a lot of things that have to be done to get a fair and free election in the US.

1. The swamp has to actually be drained. (read: All dual Israeli/US citizens must give up one passport, or the other. Notice I wrote Israeli first.)

2. Money must be extracted from politics.

3. The revolving door between regulatory agencies and the various industries they are SUPPOSED to regulate must be jammed.

4. Voting machines must be replaced by paper ballots.

These are just four points. Feel free to add more.

Expand full comment

I think you mean money must be removed from politics, as it is currently exactly a money extraction, sic.

What you mean is no campaign contributions of any kind, and no funding of campaign at all, a level playing field for candidates with public debates, a true fantasy

Expand full comment

I mean this:

extract /ĭk-străkt′/

transitive verb

To draw or pull out, often with great force or effort.

"extract a wisdom tooth; used tweezers to extract the splinter."

To obtain despite resistance.

"extract a promise."

To obtain from a substance by chemical or mechanical action, as by pressure, distillation, or evaporation. To remove for separate consideration or publication; excerpt. To derive or obtain (information, for example) from a source. To deduce (a principle or doctrine); construe (a meaning). To derive (pleasure or comfort) from an experience. To determine or calculate (the root of a number).

Off-topic, but my partner prays to God that Israhell will become Wasrahell. And I like your suggestions. The problem is that we have a corrupt government and they will never go for rationality. I've come to believe in term limits, and failing that voting out incumbents every single time.

Zero progress? NEGATIVE PROGRESS!

Unless you're a "progressive" then it's Aggressive Progress in regressing towards chaos.

Rampant cheating, but are you surprised?

Went to vote and challenged the old (indignant) women that there was no check for voter idea.

They rebutted: We check your signature and birthdate, it's secure!

Except they never asked my birthdate and I sloppily signed.

Election fraud indeed.

I agree! If I had thought of that phrase, I would have used it! No, I’m not the slightest bit surprised at the rampant cheating.

I think we are all easily maneuvered to the wrong track. I'm confident that the people behind all cheats (Republican and Democrat) are NGO's with our tax payer funding but controlled by elitist like Soros, Gates, and many many more of the Davos group. Maybe we should check that out.

I saw your comment on Attorney Bobbie Anne Cox’s recent substack about NY proposal 1:

https://attorneycox.substack.com/p/heres-what-happened-with-prop-1-in

I’ve commented in her substack before, but now I see one must be a paid subscriber to comment. It may take some reconfiguring (many substacks and locals accounts are worth paying for, but we can do only so much at a time! 🙂). I support Zarkfiles on substack and also follow his wife’s substack (“Bing” -- she also does cartoons). I think that based on the title of this post of yours you would really like Zarkfiles (even the general version).

I wanted to comment in Attorney Cox’s post that 1) I voted NO on prop 1; 2) I knew about her good work and had followed what she had to say; 3) I heard the radio commercials against it; 4) I heard in Catholic Church announcements that it would be best to vote NO on it (and too bad more didn’t vote no both there and from other faith communities); 5) I agree that the proposal’s language was deliberately deceptive and should be challenged; 6) prop 1 was on the front of my ballot, but I heard it was on the back of other ballots in other parts of the state (and maybe that’s why some missed it); and 7) we should have the opportunity for a “do over” with clearer language, especially since we all once voted overwhelmingly against a state proposal and then Hochul and crew later legislated and passed the opposite of the will of the people!

If you could somehow post the above ⤴️ for me as a subsequent comment to Attorney Cox’s substack I would appreciate it, and I might be able to help you with a gift subscription (if you were interested) to an earlier resource I mentioned.

Thank you. I look forward to seeing your cartoons. 🙂👍

Just thought of 8) The left had their own propaganda radio commercials saying that prop1 was ok and that messages like the media and information Bobbie Anne and her group were sharing were (according to the propaganda group) false and misleading, and this could have confused some voters.

We are having the weirdest election ever here in Maine. In CD2, we've got a three-term Israeli -- Jared Golden -- running against a Republican, and the vote is extremely close. First, it is highly unusual that all ballots are not counted fairly quickly in Maine, but not this year. (Stuffing ballots filled out by AIPAC?) Second, now we will go over the ranked-choice voting to see how that turns out, but the Israeli said we should skip that and go right to a recount. Huh? That is not the process outlined in the law. You check the second choices on ballots, and if one of them still does not get 50 percent you then do a recount. This ass also declared himself the victor before time; I hope he is daily alienating more Mainers.
