When I lived in the US, one of my watering holes had a sign by the cash register. A physical meme long before I had ever heard of the www. It said "In God we trust. All others pay cash."
I have long preached about this. A month ago I stopped being lazy and litterally put my money where my mouth is. From now on I pay with cash as often as I can.
my UK fella recently completed his first visit to the U.S.. He changed over to a good chunk of U.S. cash before coming, which unfortunately triggered his being detained by Customs at Chicago O'Hare airport (they asked lots of questions about his finances & rude questions about our relationship. ugh!) He was eventually let go about 2 hours later. the spooks were forced to concede that he was just a regular bloke, coming over on holiday to visit a woman ;) ;)
anyway... he/we paid for literally everything with cash, except for a few days stay at an Airbnb. Cash is definitely king and was worth the annoying hassle. we have a juicy, 'dissident' story to tell over it now though ;) ;)
